Dioctyl phthalate is a colorless or pale yellow transparent liquid with a special odor. It has a boiling point of 386ºC and a relative density of 0.980 to 0.983(20/4ºC). Chemicalbook is insoluble in water but soluble in organic solvents such as ethanol and ether. It is prepared by esterification reaction of  2-ethylhexanol. It is one of the most widely used plasticizers in plastic processing.
